Art Journaling Joy

Art journaling is a creative process focusing on visual art-making as a form of self- expression.

Anyone can art journal. Whether you believe you can’t draw a straight line or you are an experienced artist, art journaling is a safe place to explore your thoughts and emotions. Your art journal is just for you. Consider your art journaling practice a comforting gift to yourself.

A typical approach to art journaling involves mixed media. Simply put, mixed media is the process of combining two or more art supplies into one work of art.

Materials and supplies for art journaling can be simple, easily acquired, and inexpensive. In fact, starting out with fewer choices of supplies can help clear the mind of “choice chatter” and facilitate the creative process. Exploring more sophisticated supplies is always an option, but not a necessity.

What are some purposes of art journaling?

to reflect on your inner life; to process emotions; to record a journey;
to document the natural world;
to explore and record new discoveries;
to respond to poetry; and
to stay motivated on a goal. The list is never-ending.
