Art Journaling Joy

Art journaling is a creative process focusing on visual art-making as a form of self-expression. Anyone can art journal. Whether you believe you can’t draw a straight line or you are an experienced artist, art journaling is a safe place to explore your thoughts and emotions. Consider your art journaling practice a comforting gift to yourself.

A typical approach to art journaling involves mixed media. Simply put, mixed media is the process of combining two or more art materials into one work of art.

Materials and supplies for art journaling can be simple, easily acquired, and inexpensive. In fact, starting out with fewer choices of supplies can help clear the mind of “choice chatter” and facilitate the creative process. Exploring more sophisticated supplies is always an option, but not a necessity.

Some purposes of art journaling include reflecting on your inner life; processing emotions; recording a journey; documenting the natural world; exploring and recording new discoveries; responding to poetry; and staying motivated on a goal. The list is never-ending.
